Mata Hari Room

The Mata Hari room is a new project witch cannot be missed at my projects. This room was the beginning of my passion for Mata Hari and is located in the FriesMuseum at Leeuwarden.

Therefore it became my new project. again and again I will complete it with my photos. The sculptors Tilly Buij and Gerard Groenewoud have created, in order of this museum, the room in the shape of a piece of modern art.

I was very impresses by there performance. The way they used the light and the soft music where to Mata Hari danced in her past. It was there that I started to be fascinated of the life of this mysterious woman. Margaretha Geertruida Zelle.

Photos of the original Mata Hari room in Leeuwarden.

Made the day of opening my exhibition July 2 -2005,seen till October 29 -2006.

This time I chose to make a project of witch you can look into from the top. I didn’t want to miss one wall.
Every wall shows namely a period of her life. According to the size one can look inside very good.
It is one top twelve en yet 95 cm by 74 cm. The floor needs more work.

This is the miniature of the four walls. Four periods of her life.

There are designed four different kinds of wallpaper. Every side shows an other part of her life.
The wallpaper design looks like a tattoo on a woman’s skin. Mata Hari’s sensuality is more emphasized this way. ( in real, the skin is better seen) On of the four walls are seven vales. The artists have chosen
to symbolise the famous Dance of the seven Vales. To produce a perfect copy of this room, I got from
Gerk Koopmans, conservator of  The Fries Museum, some copy’s of the original posters from the wallpaper. I reduced them to smaller parts en glued it to my walls. As well as the seven veils on the walls

Now I’m busy to make the poles round the stage, where the tête-à-tête show-window must come. There comes the latest subject, the wonderful, original dancing costume and of course the leather bounded scrap books of  Mata Hari. Open to admire.

The first of two show-windows is ready. I’m busy filling it. These miniature books are copied. As an example I used my collection of books. The show-window is velvet softly covered. In the other show-windows must come more museum collections, such as original documents, bills and other personal belongings as letters. I have to think how to produce these. Well later care.

Personal gift for, Gerk Koopmans, I made these mini Mata Hari.

This original photo helps me to dress the five tailor’s dummy’s which are divided over the whole room.
The dolls are already in my possession, now the clothing. It will be quite a job to make it as good as
necessary as the original. So far this. The follow-up I ill show you later. My passion for Mata Hari is
still here and with lots of pleasure I work on this project.
